Toyosu Fish Market Map and Layout

Toyosu Market is not a building, it is three of them on three numbered blocks with a railway station in the middle and a raised walkway joining everything up. Knowing which block you want before you arrive at five in the morning saves fifteen minutes you do not have. Toyosu Market tours start from six different places within that square.

Three blocks, one pedestrian deck

The market divides its site by what each part trades. Block 7 handles seafood wholesale and holds the auction. Block 6 is where the intermediate wholesalers sell it on. Block 5 is fruit and vegetables. A pedestrian deck at first-floor level runs between them, over the roads the trucks use, and every visitor route is on that level.

Shijo-mae Station on the Yurikamome sits between the blocks and connects straight to the deck, which is why the walk to any entrance is about three minutes.

What is in each block

Block 7 — Fisheries Wholesale Market Building. Seafood from Japan and abroad is landed and auctioned here. The tuna auction is watched from the visitor corridor that runs above the hall, and the visitor hall next to it holds a life-size bluefin model.

Block 7 — Management Facilities Building. Market administration, the PR Corner where ballot winners gather, and thirteen restaurants on the third floor.

Block 6 — Fisheries Intermediate Wholesale Market Building. Where Tokyo's fishmongers and sushi restaurants buy the day's stock. Twenty-two restaurants on the third floor, the Uogashi Yokocho shops above them, a viewing gallery, and the rooftop garden on top.

Block 5 — Fruit and Vegetable Building. Produce from Japan and abroad, auctioned and sold on to greengrocers. A viewing deck looks down on the floor, and three restaurants sit on the first floor.

Where visitors may enter, and where they may not

Three entrances, one per block, all of them on the pedestrian deck. The ground floor of the management building is not an entrance and neither is any of the truck gates, which is the mistake that costs people the start of the auction.

For the tuna auction, aim for Block 7. If your morning starts with a ballot place, the meeting point is the PR Corner on the third floor of the management building in the same block, at 5:30.

The route through, once you are inside

Most mornings run the same way: in at Block 7 for the auction, along the deck to Block 6 for the wholesale floor and breakfast, up to Uogashi Yokocho if the shops are open, and out either to the rooftop garden or across to the station. Block 5 is a detour of about ten minutes and almost nobody makes it.

Everything is signed in Japanese and English, and the visitor routes are physically separated from the working floors, so it is difficult to end up somewhere you should not be.

Where each operator asks you to meet

Six different starting points within a few hundred metres, plus two that begin at your own hotel. This is the detail worth checking twice the night before.

Senkyaku Banrai, next door and on its own clock

Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai opened on 1 February 2024 at 6-5-1 Toyosu, next to the market and connected to the same pedestrian deck. It is an Edo-styled eating and shopping street with a hot-spring complex above it, and one of the departures here uses the convenience store at its entrance as a meeting point.

Shops from 10:00, a few second-floor stores from 9:00, restaurants to 20:00 or 22:00 depending on the floor. The eighth-floor foot-bath garden is free to anyone. A market morning that finishes at half past eight will find almost all of it shut, which is worth knowing before you build a plan around it.
